Teresa J. Potempa

   Teresa J. Potempa, age 68 of Monticello, passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2019.

   She was born in Poland, and grew up in that country when it was still very much under communist rule. As a young woman she pursued studies in nursing, obtaining certification as a Registered Nurse.  She pursued her care for the sick and injured until the dissolution of her marriage compelled her to look to America for new adventures and experiences. 

  Teresa came to America with no English skills, and after deciding to make Chicago, Illinois her home, she set about learning English in order to be able to pass the examination for licensure as a Registered Nurse. She was successful in her pursuit and began a position in nursing  with Cook County. After many years employment, she  retired from a fulfilling career as a charge nurse in the Intensive Care Unit of the Cook County Hospital.

  In 2015, following a motor vehicle accident in this area, Teresa decided to make Monticello, Minnesota her home, and she came to live at St. Ben’s. Teresa frequently spoke of her love and attachment for the residents and staff of the community in which she lived. She became a member of St. Henry’s Parish and benefitted from the time and kindness of her Befriender, Mary.

  Throughout her life, Teresa loved travel, her Polish culture and most of all, the love of Our Lord, Jesus Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary. She was devoted to the daily rosary and took great comfort from the scriptures.

  She is survived by a brother in Poland.  Her parents preceded her in death. Several good friends in Chicago also remain to cherish her memory.

  Funeral Service will be at 10:00am on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at St. Benedict’s Senior Community, 1301 E. 7th Street, in Monticello. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at St. Henry's Catholic Cemetery in Monticello.
