William “Bill” Shierts, age 87 of Monticello, passed away on May 15, 2019. Bill was born and raised in Monticello and was a Korean War Veteran in the US Army. He was a former VFW commander and active lifelong VFW member who enjoyed working on old cars. Bill worked as an insulator and was a member of Local 34 for 63 years.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, William and Jenevieve Shierts; and brothers, Glen, Robert, Howard and Kenneth. He is survived by his sons, Larry (Jackie) Shierts, Jay (Annette) Shierts and Lee (Cyndy) Shierts; daughter, Karen (Doug) Schneider; grandchildren, William Shierts, Morgan Schneider and Leo Shierts; great grandchild, Cameron Shierts; siblings, Doug (Jeannie) Shierts, Mary Moore, Coleen Kilian, Bonnie Patnode; and sisters in law, Bonnie Shierts and Elieen Shierts.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 23, at 11AM with visitation one hour prior at Peterson Grimsmo Funeral Chapel in Monticello. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Gathering to follow at the Monticello VFW.
