Ardell Plantenberg Obituary

Ardell Ann Plantenberg passed away on Monday, April 10, 2023 peacefully at her residence in Albertville.  She was born on September 26, 1929 in St. Cloud to parents Daniel and Marie (Kolling) Gohl.  She graduated from Cathedral High School. On June 6, 1950 Ardell married Jerome Plantenberg.  They enjoyed a marriage of 63 years. After marrying they moved to Hibbing for a few years, then to Minneapolis and later spent 20 years in Robbinsdale.  In 1975 they built their home in Hanover where they lived for 35 years.  Most recently Ardell lived in Albertville. Although Ardell’s primary occupation was mother and homemaker, she also enjoyed working in her community. She was a “people person” in every sense.  She worked as a nursing assistant in Hibbing, Golden Valley and Robbinsdale.  Later she waitressed, and worked as a manager’s assistant for a local convenience store. She served on the city planning commission.  In their later years, Ardell and Jerry spent time volunteering and traveling. Ardell was dedicated to her Christian faith all of her life, and gave this great gift to her children as well. She was a firm believer in education and in her fifties, took some college classes of which she enjoyed.  Her professors likewise enjoyed her as a student!  One of her favorite pastimes was delighting in good conversation. She loved listening to WCCO radio all day long, and was an avid Minnesota sports fan, year-round. Ardell never gave any question as to where she stood on anything.  She was confident, strong willed and determined in her advocacy for doing the right thing.  And she wasn’t afraid to tell it like it is! There was rarely a person she’d meet that she didn’t leave an impression upon.  She had a flair for life and style, with a spirited and vibrant personality. And though she was strong, she was deeply caring in her heart. Ardell was preceded in death by her parents Daniel and Marie; husband Jerome; brothers Daniel Gohl and Roger Gohl;  and son-in-law Jeffrey Kilian. She is survived by her children Ann Disselkamp, Elizabeth “Betsy” (Tim) Cole, and Paula Kilian (Shawn Jensen); 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and many other loving relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 pm on April 28, 2023 at St. John’s Abbey Church, Collegeville, MN, with visitation one hour before Mass at 1:00 pm. Luncheon will follow the interment at church. Interment will be held after the Mass at the St. John's Abbey Cemetery. Arrangements by the Peterson-Grimsmo Funeral Chapel, Monticello. 763-295-2918.
