Carol Ann (Slaughter) West

Carol was one of six children born to James and Clara Slaughter on May 4, 1941. She was born and raised in Petersburg, VA. Carol graduated from Petersburg High School and went on to nursing school. She studied at the Southside Regency Medical Center and became an RN. She worked in the surgical department until she got married and moved to Minnesota.

Carol met the love of her life, Donovan West, while he was stationed at Fort Lee, VA. They married in 1970 and were married for 50 years. She worked at Monticello Hospital for over 20 years before retiring. Carol enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, canning, drawing, and painting. Carol is survived by her stepdaughter Renee Peterson (Christina) of Buffalo, Minnesota, 4 grandchildren, Ashley (Douglas), Nathaniel, Christopher, and Donna (Michael); 3 great- grandchildren, Lucie, Koi, and Alexandra; and several cousins in the state of Virginia. She is also survived by her beloved dog “Little Bit” and many friends at St. Benedict’s Community in St Cloud, MN. Carol was preceded in death by her parents James and Clara Slaughter; her husband Donovan M. West; her son Donald West; and 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Graveside service to be held at Morningside Memorial Gardens in Coon Rapids on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.
