Catherine M. (Casey) Vogel

Catherine Vogel peacefully passed away June 29, 2020 following a long life and brief illness.

Catherine was born the eighth of ten children to James and Ellen (Sexton) Casey on November 11, 1921 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  Following her education at Ascension Parish and North High School, she continued to reside in Minneapolis and worked in the Downtown Area (most notably at Cargill).

Catherine was joined in marriage to Virgil Vogel on December 28, 1957.  They resided on a farm near Clare, Iowa where they raised their children. They were members of St. Matthew’s Parish.

Catherine and Virgil later moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa where they were members of Holy Rosary Parish.

In 2003, Virgil and Catherine moved to St. Benedict’s Community in Monticello, Minnesota and were members of the Church of St. Henry.

Catherine was preceded in death by her father, mother and siblings as well as her husband (Virgil) of 47 years.  She is survived by her daughter Jean (Jon) of Aurora, Colorado, son Gregory of Baxter, Minnesota and son Joseph (Nichole) of Medina. Minnesota.  Catherine was blessed with 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews as well as many whom she called friend throughout her remarkable life.

Catherine enjoyed making fleece blankets of various designs and sizes.  Meticulously crafted, the intent was to always provide a source of happiness and security for those to whom she later gifted.  As with her blankets, Catherine will be remembered as a reliable friend that always had a story to tell.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at the Church of St. Henry, Monticello, at 10:30am on Tuesday,  July 7th, with visitation an hour before.  Interment will be at St. James Cemetery in Clare, Iowa at a later date.

Catherine supported many charitable organizations.  The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to be distributed at the family’s discretion.
