Chad Arthur Dyrdahl

Chad Arthur Dyrdahl, 43, from Monticello, MN, passed away on September 7, 2025. He was born October 27, 1981 in Glendale, CA to his loving parents Paul Arthur Dyrdahl and Gayle Lynn Dyrdahl. Chad is the oldest son of Paul and Gayle and a beloved brother to his sisters Amy and Raven and his wonderful nieces and nephew.

At a young age, Chad was diagnosed with Cornelia de Lange Syndrome—like many with CdLS, Chad persevered with cognitive and communication challenges all while radiating a loving spirit and a joyful smile. From a young age, Chad loved music and became a self-taught expert in radio frequencies and static, along with placing flashlights in special spots all throughout the home.

Chad would grow up attending school in Sun Prairie, WI where he became more accustomed to using sign language and speech devices to communicate. With these tools, Chad would often share about his favorite holidays: Halloween, Birthdays and Christmas. Chad would be excited as soon as he saw pumpkins or Christmas lights being placed outside, knowing his birthday or Christmas was coming soon. He loved to see the family all come together and he enjoyed unwrapping gifts to see what electronics or batteries he could use to create just the right frequency on his radios.

Growing up, Chad was adventurous and loved spending time boating and dipping into a pool with his family. Chad enjoyed short rides with his dad on snowmobiles, riding in a four-wheeler or a bobcat. If it had buttons and lights, Chad would enjoy the adventure.

In 2005, the Dyrdahl family located to Minnesota where most of their relatives live. In Minnesota, Chad began attending Music in the Park in Buffalo, Monticello and Big Lake. He loved to sit back and listen to the live music with his family—he especially enjoyed rock bands. Additionally, Chad was delighted to go to the movie theater to catch the latest action movies.

In 2013, Chad was diagnosed and successfully fought cancer. It was a trying time for the family and Chad was blessed with his mother’s support in handling the many appointments and side effects of the treatment. Thankfully, Chad was able to recover and continue spending quality time with his family in the activities he most enjoyed— whether it be a simple drive around town with his dad, enjoying a ‘crunch’ treat made by his mom or listening to music on his devices. In 2025, Chad was again diagnosed with cancer, however, this cancer was much more aggressive. Thankfully, Chad was able to pass peacefully in his home surrounded by loved ones in prayer.

While managing his life was complicated, Chad would touch those around him in innumerable ways. Chad could draw loved ones in and taught us all to slow down and appreciate the small moments. Upon his passing, we have been made aware of how much his life mattered. As unique as Chad was, he was able to influence people in a positive way. People would mention their experiences with Chad had a lasting effect on them. We believe that is a great legacy for Chad to leave behind in this world. Not a day goes by without us missing his spirit.

In the near future, the family will be hosting a celebration of Chad’s life.
