Dan was born in Holdingford, Minnesota, where he attended elementary and high school, graduating in 1965. After graduation he continued his education at Saint Cloud State University graduating in 1969 after earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education and American history.
After a year of teaching Junior High Social studies in Buffalo, Minnesota, Dan was drafted into the United States Army in 1970. He spent most of his military assignment as a clerk-typist in the Academic Branch office at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. After his discharge from the army in 1972, Dan returned to teaching American history in Buffalo, where he remained until his retirement in 2006.
Having taught in the same school district for his entire teaching career he was witness to many changes in teaching philosophy, curriculum, and staff.
He enjoyed summer traveling throughout the United States and western Canada, was an avid reader and theater goer, maintaining his season ticket status at the Guthrie since 1974.
Dan was married to the love of his life, Dianna Vossen, in October 2012 during the regularly scheduled Saturday evening mass at St. Henry’s Catholic Church. The couple resided in Monticello, Minnesota, separately for many years before their marriage, as well as during their years together.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Mary (Dullinger) Fink, as well as two older sisters and their husbands, Sylvia (Robert) Stoermann and Cathy (Rodney) Adolph.
A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at the Church of Saint Henry, 1001 E. 7th Street, Monticello, MN at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to mass.
