Darlene M. (Lundquist) Sawatzke
June 4, 1937 – November 28, 2024 (age 87)
Darlene Marion Sawatzke (Lundquist), age 87 of Monticello Minnesota, passed away on November 28, 2024. She was born on June 4, 1937 in Monticello Township to Rudolph and Mabel Lundquist. She grew up on the family farm in Silver Creek, attended country school in Maple Lake Township, and later graduated from Monticello High School in 1955.
That same year she married Harvey Sawatzke. They lived South of Monticello for many years before moving to Lake Ida in the 1990’s. Darlene owned and operated her own business, Dar’s Beauty Shop out of her home in Monticello. She also spent decades serving the citizens of Monticello Township in her role as Township Clerk. In addition, Darlene was a proud member of the Monticello American Legion Auxiliary where for years she oversaw the auxiliary’s volunteer efforts associated with the American Red Cross blood drives in Monticello.
After Harvey’s retirement they enjoyed traveling about. They particularly liked meeting folks from other states and visiting new destinations aboard Amtrak. Branson Missouri was a frequent destination for them, as they enjoyed watching and visiting with their nephew who performed there. Watching the activity on Ida Lake, fishing and pontoon rides were among her favorite pastimes. Her greatest joy of all was spending time with friends and family. She particularly enjoyed attending her sons’ & grandkids’ activities and sporting events where she spent countless hours throughout her lifetime.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents Rudolph and Mabel; her husband Harvey; her infant son Marty; and her siblings Charles Lundquist, Junior Lundquist, and Luverne Peterson. She is survived by her sons Brad (Kim), Frank (Wendy), Pat (Michelle) and Andy (Lisa); her siblings Lorraine Forar, Audrey Murray and Lloyd Lundquist; sixteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and her great friend Ken Pribyl whom she had the good fortune to spend many years and so many enjoyable experiences with later in life.
Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Monticello, Minnesota on Friday December 6. Visitation will be held at 10 AM with the service at 11 AM followed by a lunch at the church. Trinity Lutheran Church will make this service available for on-line viewership.
