Darwin Frederick Kulzer, age 74, of Monticello, Minnesota, and formerly of Loretto, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at the Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Cloud, MN. A Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023 at 11:00 am, with visitation one hour prior, at the Church of Ss. Peter and Paul, 150 Railway Street East, Loretto, MN, with Father Glen Jenson as the celebrant. Burial will follow at Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Loretto, MN.
He was born on January 7, 1949, in St. Cloud. He graduated from Cathedral High School and continued his education at the University of Minnesota – Go Gophers! He worked in various audit positions for the National Credit Union Administration, IBM Credit Union, and FMC Corporation. He also spent many years working with small companies providing government contract services.
He enjoyed fishing at the Leech Lake cabin and lakes near Loretto, golfing, playing 500 with his brothers, and beating his family at cribbage. He had a passion for watching sports, especially the Vikings, Twins, and Gophers. We will always cherish the many wonderful memories with friends and family at the cabin on Leech Lake and the semi-annual reunions where we gathered to play cards, sing songs, and enjoy each other's company. We will miss Darwin's Famous Pancakes that he made for breakfast on reunion weekends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Marcia (Schaefer); children, Tanya (Bill Maurice), Amy (Daniel Banks), and Jon (Jessica Peer); grandchildren, Mia Banks, Julia Maurice, and Dakota Kulzer; siblings, Louise, Miles (Becky England), and Wayne Kulzer (Sue Zwick), Raphael (Kathy Wolter), Russ (Erin Guthrie), Robin (Phillip Bautch), and Rodney Kampa (Geri Fitzpatrick); and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Aloys Kulzer, Rita and Raphael Kampa; siblings, Glenn and Keith Kulzer; and brother-in-law, Steve Wilson.
A special thank you to Quiet Oaks Hospice House for the exceptional care they provided to Darwin during his stay there.
