Donald Richard Reed

Age 83, of Monticello, Minnesota, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2019, at St. Cloud Hospital, surrounded by children and grandchildren.

Services are at 1:00PM on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel, 250 E Broadway, Monticello, MN.  Visitation will be one hour prior to services.  Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.

Donald Richard Reed was born Dec. 11, 1936, in Winfield, Alabama, the only child of Annie Lou (Bishop) Reed and Mack Lee Reed.  On June 12, 1954, he married Darlene Curry at Moline Gospel Temple where they were active members for many years.  Don worked in retail Management for 50 years in Illinois, Iowa, Indiana and Minnesota, and he had an amazing work ethic.

Don was an avid reader who also enjoyed the outdoors, hunting fishing, golfing – all sports.  He especially enjoyed following his children and grandchildren in their activities.

Those left to cherish Don’s memory include his 8 children: Debra, Don, David, Dedi, Dawn, Daniel, Darci, Dustin; 22 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, David; sister-in-law, Diane; niece, Jennifer; cousins, and many friends.  He was preceeded in death by his beautiful wife of 65 years, Darlene; his parents, in-laws, and only nephew, John.

Don devoted the last 5 years to the loving care of his wife, Darlene, who suffered from dementia, Don was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, “Brother”, Uncle and loyal friend.  He will be greatly missed.  His was a life well-lived.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family toward a memorial being established in Don’s honor.
