Donald "Donny" Ray Fern

Donald “Donny” Ray Fern, age 58 of St. Cloud, beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, Godson, Godfather, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on March 19, 2025 at home due to natural causes.

Second born to LoAnn and Thomas Fern on August 9, 1966 in Minneapolis. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Monticello, MN. Being raised in St. Michael and Monticello, Donny grew up in a neighborhood with picnics, picking strawberries, building forts, and spending too much unsupervised time at the river with too many shenanigans to list, creating many memories with neighbors -some who became like family. He graduated from Monticello High School in 1984.

Donny joined the US Army out of high school, proudly serving our country.

He was a master woodworker and created many custom pieces for satisfied customers. He also kept busy outside with his lawncare business, Fern Green Properties.

Donny was an avid fisherman, enjoying spending many days on the lake. He had the most generous soul with a kind heart. He was always there if you needed help with something, and his giant smile was infectious.

Donny was greeted in heaven by his mom, LoAnn Puhalla; dad, Thomas Fern; brother, Eric John Fern; grandmother, Dorothy Weber; and many other family members and friends who have gone before him.

Donny is survived by the people who he knew loved him ALWAYS, sister, Tari Fern; nephew, Adam Rozenberg (Amber Ziehm); his best puppies, Izzy and Bella; all of his aunts, uncles, cousins, many lifelong friends, and people he’s met along his life journey.

Donny wished to be cremated. A celebration of life will be held Friday, April 25, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Monticello VFW, 713 S Cedar St, Monticello, MN. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.
