Douglas G. Arnold, age 74 of Monticello, passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2023 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home after a long battle with cancer.
Doug was born March 30, 1949 to Glen and Hattie Arnold, growing up on a farm in rural Monticello. After high school he joined the US Army Quartermaster Corps. After his service, he worked for many years at Cornelius Beverage in Anoka, MN. Eventually he discovered his true calling as a self-taught upholsterer. He proudly ran Arnold Upholstery out of his home workshop for over 30 years until his retirement. Besides a brief stint overseas with the military, Doug lived his entire life in Monticello. Doug loved baking, arts and crafts, and was an active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Monticello.
Doug is survived by his very special friend, Scott Bigelow; brother, Dennis of Big Lake; nephews, Russell (Erin) of Sedona, AZ, and Brian (Erin) of Forest Lake, MN; and many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dale; and sister-in-law, Jaye Papke Arnold.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Doug’s name are preferred to the American Cancer Society.
A graveside memorial service will be held Thursday, August 17, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, 15550 MN-115, Little Falls, MN.
