Earl John Poirier, 89, of Monticello MN, passed away Tuesday January 23, 2024.
Earl John Poirier was born March 12, 1934, in Faribault, Minnesota. He was born to Earl John Poirier Sr. and Sylene (Gingras) Poirier. He was one of seven children.
John attended Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa from 1952 to 1956 where he majored in Biology. After graduating college, he went immediately to Navy Officer School in Rhode Island. He was stationed on the U.S.S. General Breckenridge where he traveled the world. While in the Navy, he attended the University of Minnesota where he met his wife Elizabeth Flannery and completed his degree in Pharmacy. They were united in marriage at Christ the King Church in Edina, Minnesota on August 1st, 1964. Their union was blessed with three children and the family made their home in Monticello, Minnesota. He was honorably discharged in 1968.
In 1971, John purchased a drug store in Monticello that he named Poirier Drug where he was a pharmacist for over 12 years. He then sold the drug store but continued to pursue his career as a pharmacist working at K-Mart and Sam’s Club until he retired. He was active in the community as a member of the rotary club and was a member of the Chamber of Commerce where he served as President in 1974.
John was an avid outdoors man who loved to hunt and fish. He was an active member of Fur Fin and Feathers. John was a long-time member of St. Henry’s Catholic church and was a devout Catholic.
Grateful to have shared John’s life are two sons, Steve (Colleen) Poirier of California and Greg (Tonia) Poirier of Rogers, MN; four grandchildren, McKade and Morgan Poirier, and Hayden and Jillian Poirier.
Preceding John in death were his parents, Earl John and Sylene; his wife, Elizabeth; and his daughter, Anne.
Mass of Christian Burial is at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 17, 2024, at the Church of Saint Henry, 1001 E 7th St. Monticello, MN. Visitation is 1 hour prior to Mass at church. Burial will follow at St. Henry’s Catholic Church Cemetery.
