Edward Christianson Obituary

Edward Raymond Christianson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away suddenly at the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud, Minnesota on December 27, 2025.  Born on May 21, 1947, in Canby, Minnesota, Ed was the son of Raymond and Mae Christianson.

Ed was baptized into the Christian faith on November 23, 1947, at Porter Lutheran Church in Porter, Minnesota, by Pastor O. A. Olson. He later affirmed his faith through Confirmation on May 19, 1963, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo, under Pastor C. Gerald Lygre.

He grew up in Montevideo, where he graduated from Montevideo High School on June 2, 1966.

On October 17, 1966, Ed proudly entered the United States Navy, serving until October 16, 1972. His years of service were a defining chapter of his life, and he took great pride in serving aboard the USS Cacapon (AO-52). His dedication earned him several honors, including the National Defense Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze stars, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device (1960). He carried his service with quiet dignity and deep pride throughout his life.

On May 27, 1972, Ed married the love of his life, Marlene. Together they built a warm and loving home in Buffalo, Minnesota, and were blessed with two daughters, Aneisa and Melissa, who were the joy of his life. Ed spent many years managing Western Continental Oil stations in the Minneapolis and Wisconsin areas, where he was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and easygoing nature.

Ed’s happiest moments were spent outdoors or in the company of those he loved. He treasured time fishing and hunting with his lifelong buddies Jay Velde and Gary Anderson, along with many others who shared his love of the outdoors. He enjoyed collecting model cars, playing cards with friends—often accompanied by endless pots of coffee and bags of popcorn—and tinkering with countless projects. Above all, he cherished time spent with his grandson Dom along with his family and friends, creating memories that will be held close forever.

Ed is survived by his devoted wife, Marlene; daughters Aneisa (Terry) Marschel and Melissa Christianson; grandson Dom; and sisters Ruby Lokken and Betty Chavarria.

He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Raymond and Mae Christianson; his dear sister Barbara Walton; cherished nephews Troy Walton and Richard Weckwerth; treasured extended family members Harlen and Ann Esping; loving aunts and uncles Tom and Marilyn DeBettignies, Duane and Marlys DeBettignies; and close family friends Kathy Velde and Gerald Anderson, along with many other beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins who held a special place in his heart.

Ed will be remembered for his loyalty, his humor, his gentle spirit, and the deep love he held for those around him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.
