Fred Everett Topel of Monticello, MN, age 101, died August 7th, 2023. He was born May 7th, 1922 in Golden Valley, MN to Frank and Berdine (Knutson) Topel. He graduated from North High School in Minneapolis, joined the National Guard and trained at Camp Ripley. He served his country during WW2 in the United States Army as a Forward Observer in North Africa and Italy. After the war he came home and married his sweetheart, Dorothy Anne Long, in 1946. He also served in the Navy during the Korean War. They moved from Brooklyn Center to Monticello in 1963 where Fred owned and operated filling stations and a bulk distributing business. Fred was also a member of the local Rotary Club. Later, he and Dorothy enjoyed traveling and selling antiques all over the USA visiting all but 2 states. In 2010 he opened and operated Antiques & Decor in Monticello and retired in 2020 at the age of 98!
He is survived by his 5 children Fred (Maxine), Tarra (Jim) Shultz, Jeff (Dottie), Kristy (Larry) Pepin, Keith (Judy), his sister Dolores Atter; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his brother; and 2 grandsons.
He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
