George Ivan Smith

George Ivan Smith, 82, of Monticello, MN, passed away peacefully with family by his side on August 31, 2023 at Quiet Oaks Hospice House. 

George was born February 5, 1941 in National City, California to Edward and Lola Smith. 

He grew up in Petersburg, Indiana, playing football, basketball, baseball, and running track. George was a U.S. Navy Veteran who served from 1961 - 1964 on the USS Forrestal. He worked as a welder until he retired. He loved doing things around the yard at home and tinkering with things. He also loved hunting, fishing, and watching sports. 

His greatest joy was spending time with his family and making lasting memories together. 

George is survived by his daughters Kirsten (Chris) Phinney, Heidi (Wally) Erickson; granddaughters Emily Mattox, and Grace Phinney. 

A graveside service, with military rites, will be held Thursday, September 7, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Riverside Cemetery in Monticello, MN.
