Obituary

James "Jim" Kermit Anderson

April 23, 1943 - March 23, 2023

James Kermit Anderson, age 79 of Monticello, MN, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on Thursday, March 23, 2023. He was born April 23, 1943 in Monticello, the son of Roy and Anna (Anderson) Anderson.

Jim was a 1961 graduate of Monticello High School. He furthered his education at the University of Minnesota, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy and Soils and attended Graduate School at University of Illinois for Agricultural Economics.

He was a Peace Corp Volunteer from ’62-’64 in the Dominican Republic. He worked as an Assistant County Agent in Slayton, MN; Park Ranger and Land Acquisition Agent for Hennepin County Park Reserve (now known as 3 Rivers Park); and many years as an independent sub contractor for several construction companies locally and in the cities.

In 1965, Jim Anderson and Nila LaRae Taylor were united in marriage. They were blessed with two children: Rodney and Colette. Jim was able to build his dream log home when the family moved to Monticello.

Jim volunteered his time with Grace Church in Eden Prairie for many years, creating props and sets for the children’s programs. He also volunteered with SonScape Ministries in Divide Colorado, beginning in 2008 by building/remodeling, maintaining, fixing, and anything else that was on the to-do list! He enjoyed volunteering his time with other ministries and helping his family and friends.

There are many characteristics to say who Jim was, he was introverted, humorous, unpretentious, frugal, dependable, creative. His greatest qualities were being a great family man and servant of the Lord. On the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, Jim was an ISTP.

He is preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law, Colette and Will Craig; parents, Roy and Anna Anderson; and brother, David Anderson.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Nila Anderson; son, Rodney (Kim) Anderson; granddaughter, Emily (Trent) Hagstrom and great-grandson due in May; grandson, Steven (Abby) Anderson; grandson, James (Florence) Craig; grandson, Liam Craig; brother, Gerald (Sallie) Anderson; Sister, Mary (Henry) Leupp; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

A huge thanks to Allina Hospice Maple Grove especially Dawn and Stacy Jensen Ind. Hospital & Home Healthcare...Stacy, Amy, and Shawna for their loving and careful care! We could not have managed without them!

Thank you to all who have supported us through this illness with prayer, food, papa sitting, visits, flowers, and so much more!! I am SO deeply grateful! ~Nila and family
