James Guy Gregory (Jim), 79, passed away on January 28, 2026. Born on January 14, 1947, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Jim was the son of Marcelle and Pauline Gregory of Shiloh, NC. His life was defined by devotion—to his family, to his passions, and to the people who were fortunate enough to know him.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Diane Gregory; his three sons, Sean (Michelle) Gregory, Eric (Ashlee) Gregory, and Kevin Gregory; his daughter, Lisa Curry; his grandchildren, Kourtney Curry, Brandon Gregory, Shelby Gregory, Dakota Curry, and Matthew Curry; his adopted daughter Casi Chartraw; his brother Randell Gregory; and his sister Marlene Harris. He is also remembered with love by his close friends whose companionship brought him comfort and joy in his later years.
Most recently residing in Big Lake, Minnesota, Jim carried with him the humor, generosity, and grit that shaped his life. He had a gift for making people laugh and an instinct for helping wherever he was needed. His presence could fill a room, not with noise, but with warmth.
Jim built a very diverse career over the years, taking pride in every role he held. His professional journey ultimately led him to manage several security contracts throughout Minneapolis. His favorite assignment was his final one at the Metrodome, where he oversaw security operations, collaborating with the Minnesota Twins, the Minnesota Vikings amongst many other activities.
Baseball was one of Jim’s greatest lifelong passions. From playing in his youth to refereeing his sons’ Little League games, he poured his heart into the sport. His dedication led him to umpire in the Midwest Regionals and ultimately at the 2013 Little League World Series—an honor he cherished deeply. His love for the game even extended to his own backyard, where he proudly mowed his lawn in the pattern of a baseball field.
Jim’s other great love was duck hunting. He treasured every early morning spent in the blind with his boys and his loyal dogs, finding peace and purpose in the quiet rhythm of the hunt.
A proud veteran, Jim served in the United States Coast Guard from October 1966 to October 1970 on active duty and continued his service in the reserves until October 1972. His commitment to duty and country was a point of pride throughout his life.
Jim will be remembered for his sharp wit, his kind heart, and the unwavering love he held for his family. His legacy lives on in the stories he told, the laughter he sparked, and the countless lives he touched.
May he rest in peace, reunited with those he loved so dearly.
