Janette Joyce (Dyrdahl) Nygaard

Janette "Jan" Joyce Nygaard, age 89 of Monticello, passed away on Wednesday, February 8th, 2023.  She was born January 18th, 1934 in Hazel Run, MN, the daughter of Albie and Alma (Dozler) Dyrdahl.  She was united in marriage to Leland Nygaard on October 14th, 1951.  Together they raised five children.  Through the years Jan worked at Twin City Arsenal, Wonderalls, The River Inn, and Monticello High School.  She was a member of Saint Henry’s church and belonged to the Monticello Legion Auxiliary where her husband was a member as a Korean War veteran.  Jan was a fabulous cook and everyone was always welcome to come over for family dinners and Holidays.  She was always happy, smiling, and laughing.  She had a zest for life.  She loved to sing and dance.  Country music was her favorite.  She enjoyed going to Karaoke, working on puzzles, spending time at Eagle Lake, and hanging out with family and friends.  Her biggest treasure was her family.  

Jan is preceded in death by her husband, Leland Nygaard; parents, Albie and Alma Dyrdahl; sister, Geraldine Neiman; and brother-in-laws, William Neiman and Max Cameron. 

Surviving family members are sister, Kathy Cameron; brother, Albie Dyrdahl Jr. (Yvonne); children, Dale (Patty), Jeff (Mary Lou), Cheri (Rick Fair), Diane (Steve Holthaus), and Kelly (Ryan Thompson); her beloved 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, close friends, and special family member Ann Ryan. 

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 30th, 2023 at 10:00 AM, with visitation 1 hour prior at the Church of Saint Henry, 1001 E 7th St, Monticello, MN, with Father Patrick Barnes as Celebrant.  Burial will be at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, MN.
