John W. Sandberg, 83, of Monticello, MN, passed away on June 8, 2024. John was born on June 25, 1940 to Bill and Lou (Hedman) Sandberg. He graduated from Monticello High School in 1958. After attending the U of M, he earned his teaching degree and taught for several years in Golden Valley, MN. In 1975 he obtained his real estate license, selling properties throughout the area and later was involved in land development.
John enjoyed early retirement and spent many winters in Venice, Florida. While he always appreciated his ocean view and days on the golf course, his most cherished memories were the road trip South. He loved exploring new areas of the country with his true love, Phyllis, especially if it involved taking in a baseball game. John was an avid fan of all Minnesota sports teams, watching and tracking their success up until he passed. He frequented the Legion, mostly for the company, but certainly enjoyed pulling a big winner.
John was preceded in death by his brother, Bob Sandberg; and son, Scott Sandberg. He leaves behind his beloved partner, Phyllis Johnson; daughter, Jody (Joey) Bremer; grandson, Chad (Brett) Starr; granddaughter, Chelsea (Christopher) Mackedanz; great grandchildren, Brooks and Madden Starr, and Hensley and Adler Mackedanz.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 with visitation one hour prior at the Peterson-Grimsmo Funeral Chapel, 250 E. Broadway Street, Monticello. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Monticello.
