Joseph “Joe” Richard DeChene, age 66, of Monticello, passed away on December 9, 2024. He was born on February 12, 1958 to Leonard and Sylvia DeChene. Joe had eight brothers and one sister and grew up in Big Lake. Joe married Loretta LaBree on June 19, 1976. They were married for 48 years and had four daughters.
Joe was a humble man who loved the Lord and his family unconditionally. He was devoted to his faith, praying for others and reading his Bible daily.
In his early years, Joe worked on the family potato farm. He later embarked on a second career as a welder. He had a strong work ethic and led by example, teaching his daughters responsibility and the value of hard work.
While Joe had a tough outer shell, he had a gentle and humorous side too. He enjoyed the company of his family and loved playing cards and games with them – he sure had a strong desire to win! Joe was a word search and solitaire master, and loved reading books to his grandchildren.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Loretta DeChene; daughters: Melissa DeChene (Dave Hughes), Natalie (Joe) Dahlke, Elizabeth DeChene (Dan Bonk), Cassie (Tyler) Zarbok; grandchildren: Carrie (Skyler), Morgan, Claire, Ryker, Emmett, Mya; great-grandchildren: Raelynn, Oliver; brothers and sister: Charlie (Patty), Jim (Nancy), Mike, Lynda; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Peter, Pat, Tim, Bob, Tom; aunt and Godmother Verna Algire; niece, Tammy DeChene-Williams.
