Judith Ann (Rivers) Doyle passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on August 14, 1943, in Minneapolis to Sidney and Lillian Rivers, Judy was the oldest daughter in a lively family of eleven children. Judy grew up in South Minneapolis and attended Incarnation Elementary School before graduating from the Academy of Holy Angels High School. She went on to earn her Master’s degree in Education and Special Education from St. Cloud State University, a reflection of her deep commitment to learning and to helping others.
Judy devoted her professional life to teaching. After briefly teaching kindergarten in Maple Lake, she spent the majority of her career in the Special Education Department at Monticello High School. There, she touched countless lives with her patience, kindness, and unwavering belief in every student’s potential. She was beloved by colleagues and students alike, many of whom credit her as a great teacher and influencer during their school years.
Her life changed forever one evening while walking down Hennepin Avenue with her girlfriends. A car full of young men pulled up and offered them a ride; fate—and perhaps a sense of fun—led Judy to climb onto the lap of a young man named Brian Doyle for the short trip to a dance. That chance moment grew into a lifetime of love. Judy and Brian were married in 1961 and shared 64 devoted years together until his passing earlier this year. In 1966, they made Monticello their home and raised their five children—Tim, Kathy, Colleen, Michele, and Pat, in a house filled with music, laughter, and unconditional love.
Judy was happiest when surrounded by family. Nothing warmed her heart more than the joyful rush of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren running into her arms. Faith was a cornerstone of Judy’s life. She was an active member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church, where she found joy in serving the community and especially in singing with the church choir. Her beautiful voice was a gift she shared freely, lifting spirits and enriching liturgies with grace and warmth. Judy approached life with curiosity and enthusiasm. She enjoyed traveling, riding horses, antiquing, camping, knitting, and crocheting. She rarely missed a school event or sporting competition, cheering proudly from the stands. And whether over a cup of coffee, a glass of wine, or a long, comfortable conversation, Judy built friendships that lasted a lifetime.
Judy is preceded in death by parents, Sidney and Lillian Rivers; beloved husband, Brian Doyle; brothers Larry and Bruce Rivers; grandson Daniel Bingham; and great-granddaughter, Harper Peterson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Monticello, MN on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation with family will be at 10:00am. Burial will follow at Tiffany Cemetery in Boyceville, WI on November 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
Judy’s legacy is one of compassion, faith, humor, and unwavering love. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who were blessed to know her. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Parkinson’s Association in hopes of helping to find a cure for this devastating disease.
