Margaret Crummy Obituary

Margaret Marie Crummy, age 77,  passed away peacefully on Friday, March 27, 2026 with family by her side. She was born on June 22, 1948 to Charles and Mary Simonitsch in Fargo, ND. She grew up in Moorhead, MN on Dudry Court. Margaret attended and graduated from Shanly Catholic High School, in 1966. She then attended Moorhead State University where she received her Bachelors Degree in Education.

While in college she met her future husband of 52 years, David Crummy. She was introduced to David by his cousin. David thought it would be cool to cruise past her house only to find out it was a dead end street so he had to crouch down in his buddy's convertible while they cruised back past it again. They were married on June 14, 1969 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Moorhead, MN. Since David had accepted a position as the new Industrial Arts teacher at Monticello High School, she joined him at his residence. They later built a house in 1974 in the country where they both resided and raised their family of five.

Margaret and David raised their children while pursuing careers in education. While Margaret substituted for all ages and departments of the school, she especially enjoyed substituting in the special education department. She always felt that learning and education were very important. Margaret was also a lifeguard and taught swimming lessons through Monticello Community Ed as well as her own pool later on. If you were going to swim in the pool, you needed to know how to swim, that was the rule.

Her faith and service were very important to Margaret. She was very active with her church and attended mass regularly and instilled a sense of faith in her family.  As a faithful Catholic, being pro-life was also very important to her and she attended many rallies at the capital with her good friend Sharon Mueller. She taught Religion at St. Henry’s Catholic Church, was a part of the Council of Catholic Women (CCW) and the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. She was a communion distributor and once took first place for her chili for the church's fall festival!

She always wanted to be of service to others so no matter what she was involved with, she was always willing to lend a hand. Margaret was very involved in her community. Many of the activities that she was involved in included 4H (Key Leader), Special Olympics volunteer, volunteering for Education MN at the State Fair, donating blood to the Red Cross (20 gallons over her lifetime!). She established a Home Extenders group with local women where they would make cookies or other treats for the elderly, and had learning days about all sorts of different topics.

Margaret attended just about everything she could possibly attend when it came to her children and grandchildren. She tried not to miss a single marching band parade, sporting event, musical, or concert. She didn’t know or understand a lot about different sporting events, but if she was there, cheering you on, you definitely heard it! She loved her grandkids so much.

Margaret loved travel because it meant that she could stop and visit with relatives and friends along the way. Margaret and David made a point to travel north every year to visit David’s family and travel east to Wisconsin to visit Margaret’s family. Many times when they'd travel up north they would stop in Morehead and visit with Margaret’s friends on Dudry Court. Later in life they had purchased a trailer in Apache Junction, AZ from David’s parents. They made annual trips there starting in January, and staying until about April. This travel opportunity allowed for her to visit with her uncle Jake in Kansas City, Missouri, David’s sister in Omaha, relatives in Dallas and many more. This opportunity allowed for her to enjoy outside activities throughout the winter. It also allowed for her to spend additional time with her daughter Krissy, who lives in Las Vegas.

To fill her time later in life and give her more opportunities to meet new people and travel she got into Mary Kay. She absolutely loved the people she met, the services she could provide, and the ability to travel to new places.

She had the biggest heart and an even bigger smile. To know her was to absolutely love her! Even though life dealt her some big challenges, she always met them head on and with a smile. She never let a challenge get her down, even in her last days.

Margaret is survived by her children, Richard (Christy) of Monticello, Brenda (Jim) Fisette of Monticello, Charlie (Amanda) of Maplewood, Krissy (Shawn Heffernan) of Las Vegas, and Caitlin (James Coyle) of Monticello; 12 Grandchildren, Michael (Maggie) Fisette, Jacob, Alexander (Ashley), Katie Fisette, Conor, Ian, Grayson, Quinn, Larkin, Arya, Elouise, and James; Great grandchildren Jane, Bennett and one due in June. Brothers and sisters, Bob (Jo) Simonitsch of Virginia Beach, VA, Anna (Lloyd) Weber of Endeavor, WI, Tom (Marge) of Baraboo, WI, Irene (Nick) of Milwaukee, WI as well as many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her spouse David, son Jacob, parents Charles and Mary Simonitsch. Siblings Charles Simonitsch, Roland Simonitsch, and Mary (Simonitsch) McConaughey and niece Buffie Simonitsch.
