Marie Taaffe Obituary

Marie Alice Taaffe
June 12, 1962 - January 13, 2024
Born in Minneapolis June 12th, 1962, to John and Marie Ybarra. Passed away peacefully at home on January 13, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.
Marie grew up in a large family of 8. Family has always been an important part of her life. Marie graduated from Patrick Henry High School in 1980 and started her very own family the same year. Marie also started her career at The Bureau of Engravings and continued working for the printing company for 32 years. She attended North Hennepin Community College for several courses to further her career within the company.
Marie met the love of her life, Michael Taaffe in 1997 while working her second job as a cashier at the local Tom Thumb. They dated, blended their families, and were married in 2000. Together they enjoyed traveling, antiquing, camping, fishing, family dinners and game nights. They cherished their trips with friends. But their most treasured moments were when they became grandparents to their 9 grandchildren and 2 grandpups.
After losing her husband Michael in 2021, Marie continued working at Hi-Way Liquors. There, she befriended and found comfort in her co-workers. There are so many people, family, and friends alike that helped Marie navigate her new phase of life.
Marie was a lover of all music, enjoyed concerts, reading and cooking shows. Nothing interfered with Marie having a good time. She had an infectious laugh and a smile that would brighten anyone’s day.
Marie was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in 2012. After many rounds of chemotherapy, countless procedures, blood transfusions and other complications, Marie was given a miracle of a Blood Marrow Transplant by her big sister Cindy. This ultimately gave us 10 more years of beautiful memories with Marie. Marie always kept a positive attitude and smile on her face. She cherished every moment that she had and wouldn’t allow cancer to take that away from her.
Marie is preceded in death by her father John Ybarra, husband Michael and sister Anna Duffy.
Marie is survived by her children, Lawrence (Leah), Erin (Allen), Gabrielle (Cole), Karen (Michael “Tay”) and Jason; grandchildren, Aleacia, MaKenzie, Keagan, Abrial, Eli, Maddox, Isaac, Ireland and Atreyu; mother Marie Ybarra; siblings Cindy, Linda, John, Kimberly and Rose; and many other cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
A service will be held Saturday February 24th at 11:00 AM at Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel, 250 E Broadway Monticello, MN. Visitation one hour prior to service. Luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred in Marie’s name to American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, Minneapolis.
