Marilyn Lillian Runquist lived 96 years on this earth. On April 15, 2026 the Lord looked down and said “it is time to come home with me.” She died peacefully at her home in Monticello, MN.
Preceded in death by her parents Albert and Edna Ittel, sister Maryls and (Richard) Meinstma,
brother Lowell and (Bernice) Ittel, husband Douglas Runquist, son Thomas Runquist and grandson James Scanlon.
Survived by daughter Kristy and (Robert) Scanlon, sister Delphine and (Richard) Sunderland and her beloved kitty Tigerrrr Lily who was always at her side.
Marilyn was born February 19, 1930 in Young America, MN and grew up on the family dairy farm in Waconia, MN. Cupid later struck when she met Douglas at the Cokato roller skating rink. They married and settled in Hopkins, MN raising 2 children. Even after Doug’s sudden death, she remained in Hopkins for over 50 years. At age 83, the house became too much and she moved in with her daughter and son-in-law in Monticello, where she lived until her death.
Marilyn had a knack for numbers and helping people. She worked at Federal, State and local banks through out her life. Her biggest talent was decorating. Her house was always beautiful. Her favorite was the Christmas season. The house twinkled with joy and the tree was breathtaking. She too, dressed as sharp as a tack. When she took some time for herself, she was found in her favorite chair reading the latest novel, creating with colored pencils or petting her cat.
We will all miss her radiant smile, strong faith values, warm embrace and loving heart.
A celebration of her life to be held later this spring.
