Age 80 of Monticello

Formerly of Golden Valley, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024, with her family by her side. Mary was born in Minneapolis, MN on April 19, 1944, to William and Lois (McNeal) Mather. She was joined in marriage to Philip Andrew Smith on September 27, 1968. Mary was a longtime employee of North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale where her warm smile and loving heart calmed many people through her job as a patient transportation escort. Mary loved everyone’s dogs, especially her own Schnauzers, Pepper and Lightning. 

She also enjoyed collecting spoons on her travels with her husband. One of her favorite destinations was Florida, where she gathered sand dollars and seashells which she proudly displayed in her home. She was a very resourceful woman, especially when it came to convincing others to help her stock up on her favorite food: pickles!

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband Philip Andrew Smith, in 2022. Surviving are her sister Barbara (Robert) Pass; brothers-in-law Gregory (Barbara) Smith, and Stephen Smith; nieces and nephews Lisa Marie (Paul) Smith, Christine (John) Schwartz, Gregory Smith, Anastasia (David) Becker, Shannon Sylvester, Lucy (Jon) Murray, Jason (Cindy) Pass, Jennifer (Leo) Smith, Amy (Bart) Smith; sixteen grandnieces and grandnephews, one great grandniece and three great grandnephews; and her many friends from Fresenius in Buffalo.  Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM with visitation 1 hour prior to the service on Friday, December 20, 2024 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 9300 Jason Avenue NE, Monticello, followed by a luncheon at the church. Private interment at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery in Osseo.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mary’s name to Resurrection Lutheran Church ~ Monticello.
