Maureen Larson Obituary

Maureen (Sullivan) Larson, 78 of Monticello passed away at her home on September 22, 2023. Maureen was recently in hospice care after treatment of a frontal lobe meningioma.

Maureen was born on November 20, 1944 to Charles and Dorothy (Douglas) Sullivan in Newport, R.I.  She lived in Newport until she married her husband of 57 years, George Larson.  Maureen and George met while he was stationed with the U.S. Navy in Newport.  They married in Newport on January 22, 1966 and then moved to Monticello where they raised their three children.

When Maureen’s kids were young, she lovingly cared for them and many other children in her home daycare. In 1985, Maureen and George purchased the Elk River Bowl, which they operated together until it collapsed under the weight of heavy snow in 2007. They cherished all the customers and employees like family, and all referred to Maureen as “Ma”, as George did.

Prior to owning the bowling alley, Maureen loved to go camping and fishing with her family. She also enjoyed cross stitching, traveling to visit family, spending time with her grandkids, bowling, playing Words with Friends and watching the Minnesota Vikings and Boston Red Sox.

Maureen is survived by her husband, George; her children: Greg (Bernal) of St. Michael, MN, Michele (Paul) Ruffridge of Bradenton, FL and Tracy (Dave) McCormick of South Bend, IN; her grandchildren: Samuel, Lacey (Ely), Connor (Amanda) and Jay (Paige) Larson, Cara and Quinn McCormick; great grandchildren Everly and Cade Larson as well as many other extended family members.

Maureen was preceded in death by her parents, brother Michael and sister Linda.
