Penny Lynn (Erkilla) Sonntag

Penny Lynn Sonntag, age 66 of Monticello, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 15, 2024. She was born in Minneapolis on February 12, 1958 to Richard and Margaret (Anderson) Erkilla.

Penny grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from South High School with the class of 1976. In high school, she was a High Kick Tigerette. She worked as a payroll accountant at Fairview Hospital and Toro.

On October 1, 1977 Penny married her first love, Scott Sonntag, at Minnehaha Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. They were blessed with two children: Michael and Jennifer.

Penny loved bowling, dancing, playing cribbage, camping, reading, writing, puzzles, music, and going to Justin Timberlake concerts with her daughter Jennifer.

Penny was one of the most loving and caring individuals one would meet. She was a fighter until the end.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Margaret Erkilla; sister, Pamela; and many cousins.

Penny is survived by her loving husband, Scott Sonntag; children, Michael (Amber) Sonntag, Jennifer Sonntag; grandchildren, Jakob, Kennadi, Michael Jr.; beloved dog, Sadie Mae; and many other family and friends.

A celebration of life for Penny will be held in the spring of 2025.
