A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Peterson-Grimsmo Funeral Home for Richard “Dick” Tyrrell, age 79, of Big Lake, MN who passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at the Wellstead of Rogers surrounded by his family. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Luncheon to follow service.
Dick was born on January 23, 1945, in Minneapolis, MN to Thomas and Mabel (Nelson) Tyrrell. He married the love of his life Kay (Carlson) Tyrrell on September 20, 1969, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. They went on to have a beautiful family with three children. He served his country from 1965-1969 in the air force; he fought in the Vietnam War. He was an outdoorsman, he enjoyed duck hunting, fishing, cabin life, golfing, camping, and target shooting. Dick was an avid collector of many things such as piggy banks, antiques, and duck decoys. He was a member and served on the board of the Minnesota Decoy Collector’s Association for over 30 years. Dick volunteered for youth group retreats and was an adult leader for the Boy Scouts. Dick will be remembered for his patient, kind, generous, humorous, and dependable nature. He was strong-willed and witty but always loving and caring. He was a bright light in so many lives and he will be missed dearly.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Kay Tyrrell; children, Michael (Erin) Tyrrell, Dana (Kurt) Stegora, Christina (Ryan) Crocker; grandchildren, Henry Tyrrell, Hana Tyrrell, Kaylee Stegora, Jayden Stegora, Rainna Crocker, and Wyatt Crocker, and many friends and family.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Margie Hanson.
