December 15, 1995 - September 4, 2024
Ricky Kothenbeutel, age 28 of Monticello, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sept. 4, 2024.
Those who came to know Ricky through school, coaching, work, church, and social activities knew he ENDEAVORED to be a dedicated, compassionate, kind-hearted, respectful, faith-filled young man. Ricky influenced many athletes to become the best version of themselves through coaching with his NDVR program, Monticello Schools and the University of MN-Morris track and field / cross country teams.
Ricky enjoyed setting goals for himself and training to achieve them, whether it be a race, lifting, or bodybuilding. You could often find him in his running shoes around town, on a trail or in a national park. He held himself to the highest standard in every aspect of life. His integrity and genuine, humble character was unmatched.
Ricky found his person in Shaley. The two of them were actively planning their future together and enjoyed the time they spent with friends, swing dancing, hiking and being together. He often was found being his silly, goofball self around her. His laughter was bigger than life. He had a way of making people laugh and enjoy every moment. His ability to play the right song at the right time was “so Ricky”.
Ricky is survived by the love of his life, Shaley Zweber, father Rick and stepmom Lori Kothenbeutel, mother Kaari and stepdad Scott Frondal, sisters Kayla (Matt) Ellison, Jenna (An) Huyhn, Lexi Kothenbeutel, nieces RaeLynn, Nova, Scarlett, Madison, and nephew Willoughby, grandparents Richard and Diane Kothenbeutel, Bernie Horne, Paul and Phyllis Olson, and Lois Frondal. He was welcomed Home into Heaven by grandma Linda Horne, grandpa Dave Studer, grandma Ila June Studer, grandpa Dale Frondal and uncle Troy Olson.
A Celebration of Life Service is being held at Riverside Church in Big Lake, MN on Saturday, September 14th, 2024 at 2pm with a social time to follow.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up in Ricky’s name through Monticello High School Athletics where his love of athletics was fostered. Electronic donations, cash, or checks payable to: Monticello High School Athletics: See Link Below
“I know of no better life purpose than to perish in attempting the great and impossible - the fact that something seems impossible shouldn’t be a reason to not pursue it. That’s exactly what makes it worth pursuing. Where would that courage in greatness be if success was certain and there was no risk. The only true failure is shrinking away from life’s challenges.”
