Richie Lee Latham, 72, of Monticello, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2026, at St. Cloud Hospital.
He was born on December 3, 1953, in Dallas, Texas to Tom and Shirley Latham.
Richie proudly served his country in the United States Army, enlisting in 1971, and honorably discharging after 6 years, 9 months, and 1 day. Following his military service, he began a distinguished career in the nuclear industry, traveling as a health physics technician, graduating with his degree in nuclear physics, and spending 32 years working at the Monticello Nuclear Plant alongside many wonderful friends and colleagues.
On November 25, 1981, Richie married Cheryl, and together they built a full and meaningful life in which he enjoyed traveling, hunting, trap shooting, camping, watching football, and time spent in service to others through the American Legion Post 260 where Richie was especially proud of his role as Commander in 2016.
Richie was a devoted father to his two daughters, Ashley and Whitney, and was always present to cheer on their many successes. Later in life, he became a proud grandfather to his two grandsons, Maximus and Vincent.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl; his children, Ashley (Cody) Gill and Whitney (Steve) Guzik; his two grandsons; his sister, Marla; and many other family members and friends.
Richie was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William.
He will be remembered for his quiet intelligence, kind demeanor, and the respect he showed to everyone he met. Richie consistently went out of his way for close friends and family, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026 from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Monticello American Legion Post 260, with Military Honors at 1:00 p.m. A private family burial will be held.
