Robert "Bob" Palmer Rierson
Age 84 of Monticello
Passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at the St. Cloud VA Hospital. The VA honored him with a beautiful ceremony surrounded by his family. We covered him with the flag, the chaplain spoke of his service, his career, some of his accomplishments and life experiences. We prayed together and heard kind words and stories from some that cared for him. Then many of the staff and several Veterans lined the hallways as we followed him with Mom ahead of us, closest to him. Several of the Veterans we encountered spoke words to Dad as he passed along his journey. These were men that Dad had likely never met as he practically never left his room or at least not his floor, 49-1 during his months there. By seeing him under the flag, they removed their hats, covered their hearts and recognized him as a Brother and offered condolences, encouragement or blessings. To say I was impressed and moved by the care and honors bestowed upon him would be a colossal understatement. The tears we shed are our own, they aren’t for him, or at least they shouldn’t be. He is at peace and without pain. Bob met and married Mary Lou Meadows. He enlisted in the U.S Army and served in Verdun, France. They owned and operated a café in Atwater, MN. He later moved to Monticello where he worked as general manager for Bridgewater Telephone Company for 27 years. He served on numerous National Boards in the telephone industry. He was a member of Rotary International and the Freemasons. He had the gift of gab and an entrepreneurial spirit that tied into most of his hobbies, often earning himself special friends along the way. Bob loved sharing fine food and fellowship with family and friends above all else. He built, owned and operated Silver Creek Ranch, where he bred and raised Quarter Horses which he showed with his family. At horse shows, the most fun was had when “Kamikaze Karaoke” was performed and one never had a clue as to what song they may wind up singing! He also enjoyed hunting and Cowboy Action Shooting. Bob is preceded in death by his parents R. Palmer and Mathilda “Tillie” (Rosenquist) Rierson; sister-in-law Marge; and niece Lisa. Surviving are his brother Richard; wife of 64 years, Mary; children Kari Jo, Christine (Bruce), Robert James (Jodi Tweeton), and Carlos Mora; grandchildren Dustin, Benjamin, Joshua, Kassandra, Rebecca, Mallory, and Lucas; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 5 PM to 7 PM with Prayer Service at 7 PM, Friday, October 27, 2023 at Faith Lutheran Church, 12449 Clementa Avenue NW, Monticello, MN, and from 2 PM to 3 PM on Saturday, October 28, 2023 with service at 3 PM at church. Arr. by Peterson-Grimsmo Funeral Chapel, Monticello. 763-295-2918. (www.peterson-grimsmochapel.com)
