Steven Wayne Schmidt, son of Forrest and Emma (Mohs) Schmidt was born on October 10, 1950 in Belgrade, Minnesota. He grew up and graduated from high school there in 1968. He then completed a computer training course in Kansas City at which point he began working for Prudential Insurance in October of 1968 where he remained until retiring in 2009 after 41 years of service.
On November 25, 1972 he married Delores Kotzenmacher. This union was blessed with two sons and one daughter. The family made their home in Monticello.
He shared a love of sports with his children by coaching youth basketball, baseball, and softball. He was also personally active in sports, playing on the Prudential commercial slow pitch softball team where they went to nationals in 1972. While active in several leagues including: bowling, golf, softball, basketball, he developed a passion for the outdoors that included hunting and gardening. He was a volunteer at the East Bridge Park Gardens and an active member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church including: Knights of Columbus, Music Ministry, Eucharistic Minister, and Usher.
Steve passed away on November 18th, 2024 in his home in Monticello surrounded by his family. He is survived by: his wife, Delores; his children, Scott (Mandy) Schmidt of Puposky, MN, Matthew Schmidt of Monticello, MN, and Gina (Travis) Collins of Fridley, MN; three grandchildren, Christian Collins and Aubrey & Payton Schmidt; sisters, Kay Queenan and Sheila (Don) Watschke; sister-in-law, Delaine Schmidt; aunt, Romona Mohs; numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
He is preceded by: his parents, Forrest and Emma (Mohs) Schmidt; brother, Noel Schmidt; sister, Patty (Jim) Walker; brother-in-law, Ronald Queenan.
Mass of Christian burial at 11:00AM on Monday, November 25, 2024 at the Church of St. Henry, 1001 – 7th St E, Monticello, with visitation starting at 9:30 AM.
