Willard Swanson Obituary

In Loving Memory of Willard Ardell Swanson

(February 28, 1941 - May 28, 2023)

With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we bid farewell to Willard Ardell Swanson, who departed from this earthly realm on May 28, 2023, at the age of 82.

Willard was born on February 28, 1941, in Big Lake, MN, where he spent his formative years with his parents, Evelyn and Freeman Swanson, and brothers and sisters. He was an extraordinary individual who lived a life guided by service, kindness, and integrity. Willard's journey through life was marked by countless acts of selflessness and unwavering devotion to his family, friends, and community.

As a devoted husband, Willard shared an unbreakable bond with his beloved wife of 47 years, Donna. Together, they built a life filled with laughter and cherished memories. Willard and Donna were blessed with one son, Keith. Willard's dedication to his family was immeasurable, and his unwavering support and guidance will forever be treasured.

Willard was not only a veteran of the United States Army but also joined the United States Air Force and served in Vietnam.

Professionally, Willard was a respected member of his community. With a sharp intellect and a tireless work ethic, he made significant contributions to Law Enforcement. Willard's passion for police work was evident in every position he undertook, from the Buffalo Police Department, Wright County Sheriff's Office, Big Lake Police Department, Worland Police Department, and finally, with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office. He rose to the rank of Chief in Big Lake and was part of the foundation of that agency for years to come.

Outside of work, Willard had a deep appreciation for fishing. He found solace in spending time fishing and traveling.

Willard's warm and generous spirit touched the lives of many. Willard and Donna took in many foster children, including Lynette (Squirrel) and Toni. They opened their home to help anyone who needed it and to provide a haven.

As we mourn the loss of Willard Ardell Swanson, let us also celebrate his remarkable life. May we find solace in our shared memories, and may his legacy continue to inspire us to live each day with service, kindness, and integrity.

Willard will be dearly missed by his family and is survived by his son Keith, his daughter-in-law Laurie, his Granddaughter Sophia, numerous extended family members, and numerous friends and acquaintances whose lives he touched. The memories of his genuine smile and antics will forever remain etched in our hearts.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate Willard's life will be held  on 6/16/2023 at Peterson-Grimsmo Funeral Chapel in Monticello at 2 PM with visitation at 1 PM. In place of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Roadogs Rescue, (please see link below) as chosen by Sophia, who is dear to Willard's heart.

In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well." Willard Ardell Swanson embodied this sentiment and leaves behind a legacy of service that will continue to inspire future generations.

Rest in peace, Dad…

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
